Reiferbahn

The Reiferbahn is located in the suburb of Stralsund called the Frankenvorstadt. Named after the Reifer or Reeper (rope-makers) who resided here in the Middle Ages. The ropes were twisted on a walk. The street was first named Reeperberg in 1326, then after 1600 Reeperbane, and in 1680 the middle low-German spelling was changed to Reiferbahn. The Reiferbahn in Stralsund cannot be compared to the one in Hamburg. There are no red lights here in this area. They can be found in other areas of the city.
